What do you understand by the term "Neuroplasticity"? Examine its healing potential to mankind.
Neuroplasticity, also popularly known as brain plasticity, is defined as a process through brain’s neural synapses and pathways are altered in response to the environmental, behavioural, and neural changes. Though the scientific research in neuroplasticity is still in its early stages and nothing much could not be concluded now, but it is sure that neuroplasticity has a healing potential for the mankind. According to the researchers at The University of California at San Franciso (UCSF), it is believed that the human brain remodels itself following the “Hebbian rule.” In plain terms meaning that brain’s plasticity is fundamentally reversible in nature, in consequence of which it is possible to overcome a mental health condition. It could be a very big achievement for the mankind since we know that treating mental disorders with drugs is simply not a good solution because a dysfunctional brain is not a machine which could be fixed by adding an oil to it, but is a complex organ. Therefore achieving neurological recovery through brain training by reversing many distorting changes which are part of the illness can be a better solution rather than relying on drugs. Thus we see how the mind can train itself and reverse the process of faulty identification.
