The Union Cabinet has recently cleared the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF). This proposed Rs. 20,000 fund will be working as a sovereign wealth fund (similar to Temasek of Singapore and the Green Investment Bank in the UK) and focus on capital infusion in infrastructure projects. Rs. 20,000 crore represents Government of India’s equity worth 49%. Additional funds will be provided by investors.
