Section 4 of the RTE Act

The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009 has been enacted to provide for free and compulsory education to all children in the age group of six to fourteen years. The Act has come into force from 1st April, 2010. It is the duty of the appropriate government and local authority to ensure compulsory admission, attendance and completion of elementary education by every child of the age of six to fourteen years. Section 4 of the RTE Act provides that where a child in the age group of six to fourteen years has not been admitted to any school or though admitted could not complete elementary education, he/she shall be admitted in an age appropriate class, and will have the right to receive special training. Such children shall be entitled to free education till completion of elementary education even after fourteen years.
