On what date India's first atomic reactor went critical?

India's First Nuclear Reactor and first nuclear reactor in Asia, Apsara was the first went critical at 3.45 pm on August 4, 1956 at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Trombay. its a symbol of arrival of India's nuclear energy programme. It was built in 15 months by Indian Engineers and Dr. Homi Bhabha had conceptualised the design of the reactor. A swimming-pool-type reactor loaded with enriched uranium as fuel, Apsara 's fuel core is suspended from a movable trolley in a pool filled with water. The pool water serves as coolant, moderator and reflector, besides providing the shielding.
