Montreal protocol deals with ozone layer depleting substance; it is Kyoto protocol which deals with greenhouse gases. Montreal protocol was agreed on 16 September 1987, and entered into force on 1 January 1989. It aims at reduction of ozone depleting substances, mainly CFC and HCFC, which are potent green house gases, thousand times more powerful than carbon dioxide.
