In recent years, many countries have decided to ban phosphates use in detergents. Which of the following may be the reason(s) for the same?
- Phosphates use causes eutrophication of waters
- Phosphates leads to Biomagnification
- Phosphates causes destruction of the stratospheric ozone
- Phosphates leads to formation of ground level ozone
Select the correct option from the codes given below:
Use of phosphate pollutes lakes, bays and streams. It creates algae blooms and starves fish of oxygen. The major drawback is that secondary wasterwater treatment removes only a small percentage of phosphorus from the influent, so a considerable amount of phosphorus is released to streams, rivers, lakes and estuaries through wastewater effluent. The low solubility of phosphates leads to biomagnification.
