Barren Island Volcano (The Andaman Islands)
Barren Island in the Andaman Islands is home to South Asia’s only active volcano. The island is mainly made of the volcano and its debris. It, along with a chain of volcanoes, marks the boundary between the Indian tectonic plate and the Burmese plate. The uninhabited volcano lies 1,000 ft above sea level and extends almost 6,560 ft below sea level. The volcano last erupted on 19 July 2009 and it has not ceased spewing clouds of ash since then.
