Zoothera Salim Ali bird

A new species of bird discovered by Indian and Sweden scientists in north east India has been named after the great Indian ornithologist Dr Salim Ali. It is the fourth discovery of a new bird species in India since 1947. The birdHimalayan Forest Thrush (scientific name Zootherasalimalii) was found in Western Arunachal Pradesh. The bird which was initially considered a single species – the Plain-backed Thrush was two different species in N-E India. The two species were segregated by elevation and habitat, one occurring mostly in coniferous forest up to the upper tree limit and the other in alpine habitats above the tree limit.
