Hari Ram Grand Prix: India at the top

India bagged the top position at the Hari Ram Grand Prix wrestling tournament held in New Delhi

Results:

  • India (1st position):2 golds, 3 silvers, and 5 bronze
  • USA (2nd position): 1 gold, 5 silvers, 1 bronze
  • Korea (3rd position): 1gold, 2 silvers, 3 bronze

Indian Winners:

  • Gold : Praveen Rana, Rajneesh
  • Silver: Nitin, Neha Rathi
  • Bronze: Vinod Kumar, Kamlesh, Manoj, GursharanPreet Kaur,Pawan Kumar

About Hari Ram Grand Prix:

  • A wrestling tournament organized with collective efforts of the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA), the Asian Associated Wrestling Council (AAWC) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
  • Includes both male and female wrestling.
  • Presently it is the only Grand Prix tournament being held in any Asian Country.

Santosh Trophy: Services beat Tamil Nadu

Services clinched their second National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy beating Tamil Nadu in the finals.

It is an annual Indian football tournament which is participated by states and government institutions

  • Trophy named after late Maharaja Sir Manmatha Nath Roy Chowdhary of Santosh, which is now part of Bangladesh
  • First Tournament: 1941
  • The first winners of the tournament Bengal top list with 31 titles till date

Committee to examine profitability of AI routes

A 4-member committee constituted to examine the profitability of routes of Air India and suggest ways to rationalise them in order to make them profitable for the national carrier. The committee will:

  • Report the profitability of the routes except for mandatory areas as per route dispersal guidelines
  • Recommend route wise withdrawal or continuance of flights
  • Provide guidelines to make them profitable

President Patil to Unveil New Logo for Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Green Initiative, Roshni

What is “Roshni”?

  • A green innovative concept with a vision to turn all urban habitats eco-friendly and sustainable.
  • Concept evolved at the behest of the President of India, which encompasses environment management and empowerment of local communities to create eco-friendly sustainable urban habitats via participation of stakeholders and union of partnership programmes.
  • Started on July 25, 2008, the programme aims to make the President’s Estate a model in green, energy efficient and zero waste model township for all other habitats across India.

Objectives:

  • Conserve water and promote its reuse and recycling.
  • Conserve energy and encourage use of new and renewable sources of energy.
  • Improve waste management systems and to promote the 3 R's viz; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
  • Control air & noise pollution.
  • Expand Green cover and conserve biodiversity.
  • Make residents of urban habitats more responsive to eco-friendly life styles.

HAL to design & develop Transport Aircraft in India

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) inked a tripartite deal to design and develop the Multirole Transport Aircraft in India. The parties to the agreement:

  1. HAL
  2. United Aircraft Corporation
  3. Multirole Transport Aircraft Limited, Russia.

The Aircrafts produced will be useful for cargo and troop transportation and airdrop of supplies.

  • The project will make India self-sufficient in this segment.
