Railways to establish NHSRC to execute bullet train project

With the aim to accelerate the ambitious high speed corridor project, the government will establish a corporation to exclusively deal with aspects like its tendering process and execution.

The National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRC) will be created very soon to focus on execution of the bullet train project, including tendering, pre-feasibility study and awarding contracts etc.

The corporation will consist of 4 members, all railway officials.

There is a plan to build 8 high speed rail corridors. Priority will be given to 492-km-long Mumbai-Ahmedabad. The train will have a speed of 300km/hour. These projects are flagship infrastructure project which have been given approval by PM’s office.

The seven other corridors will be:

· Delhi-Chandigarh-Amritsar

· Pune-Mumbai-Ahmedabad

· Hyderabad- Dornakal-Vijayawada-Chennai

· Howrah-Haldia

· Chennai-Bangalore- Coimbatore-Trivandrum

· Delhi-Agra-Lucknow-Allahabad-Patna

· Delhi-Jaipur-Ajmer-Jodhpur

300 crore compensation package to the victims of violence hit Assam : PM

A 300 crore compensation package for the violence hit people of Assam has been announced by the Prime Minister. The package includes Rs 100 crore for relief and rehabilitation in the worst affected districts.

What happened in Kokrajhar?

  • There occurred clash b/w the local Bodo community and the Muslims. The violence erupted when two Muslims leaders were shot dead. After their death Muslims retaliated in rage which led to attacks and counter-attacks making it a large scale riot kind of situation.

What is the cause?

  • Though the exact cause is still unknown, it is known that there has been tension b/w the ethnic Bodo tribe and the Muslims.
  • The Bodo consider the Bengali speaking Muslims as immigrants and therefore oppose their settlement in the region.
  • Illegal' migration has been a critical problem in North East as it has instilled fear among tribals that they will become a minority in their own state.

Assam has a history of some worst Hindu-Muslims riots and ethnic clashes. In 1983 riots in Neilly, thousands of Muslims were butchered in 1983.

India detected undisclosed income equivalent to Rs 565 cr in France

Undisclosed income of Indians amounting Rs 565 crore has been detected in France. This revealing information was shared by France which it shared under the exchange of information clause of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) which India had signed with the European country.

India leaves China behind in export growth rate: WTO

India is now ahead of China in terms of exports growth rate. It registered an increase of 16.1% in 2011. The country is at the pinnacle in the list of all major trading countries in the world. As per the WTO Report 2012, India had the fastest export growth among major traders in 2011. China was at the second spot in export growth of any major economy at 9.3 %. The growth in exports is being attributed to Indian government's and exporters' efforts of diversification of export markets that have benefitted the country's shipments.

India successfully test fires user trial version of Brahmos supersonic cruise missile

India successfully test fired BrahMos supersonic cruise missile as part of a user trial by the Army from a Chandipur off Odisha coast. The Brahmos missile development is an Indo-Russian collaborative project.

  • Range: 290 km
  • Can carry conventional warhead of 300 kg
  • Surface-to-surface Army version
  • Two-stage missile
  • Can fly at zero level

The name BrahMos is derived from the names of the two great rivers of India and Russia -- Brahmaputra and Moskva.
