BRICS nations sign pacts to trade in local currency

image5 Banks of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) inked 2 pacts:-

  1. Master Agreement on Extending Credit Facility in Local Currency;
  2. BRICS Multilateral Letter of Credit Confirmation Facility Agreement

This is a combined attempt to address with problems of a jolting world economy hit by sovereign debt crisis in many European countries and protectionist propensities of some developed countries. The development banks of BRICS inked a master agreement on extending credit facilities in the local currency and the BRICS multilateral letter of credit confirmation facility agreement.

Govt surpasses 11th plan electricity generation target

imageThe targets for electricity generation under the 11th five year plan of and the rural electrification target under Bharat Nirman have been surpassed as against target of 855 billion units, India has achieved generation of 875 billion units. Also against the target of electrification of 1,00,000 villages 1,03,000 villages have already been electrified.
Nevertheless, in the field of capacity addition, it fell a little short of the 11th Five year plan target of 62,000 megawatt. India's installed capacity is now 1,93,592 megawatts.

Centre stays hanging of Balwant Singh Rajoana

image Following a mercy petition to the President of India by SGPC (Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee), the hanging of Balwant Singh Rajoana, assassin of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, was stayed by the Centre. The hanging was scheduled to be carried out on March 31, 2012. CM of Punjab Prakash Singh Badal met President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil in connection with the mercy petition.
