What is the main object of Article 16 of the Indian Constitution?

The main object of the Article 16 of the Constitution is to create a constitutional right to equality of opportunity and employment in public offices. Article 16 is an instance of the application of the general rule of equality before law laid down in Article 14 and of the prohibition in Article 15 (1) with respect to the opportunity for employment or appointment to any office under the State.
