Eastern Theatre Command
Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag has begun his 4-day China visit from November 21-24, 2016. He has been accompanied by a high-level military delegation. The delegation is scheduled to visit a number of important military installations and meet many high-ranking dignitaries of the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) and Central Military Commission (CMC) of China. The delegation is also scheduled to visit the Eastern Theatre command of the People’s Liberation Army situated in Nanjing. Eastern Theatre command is one of the five zones of People’s liberation Army.
People’s Liberation Army is the world’s largest standing military.
The aim of the visit is to engage China on subjects of mutual concern and shared interest including terrorism, humanitarian assistance and peacekeeping training. The visit also coincides with ‘Hand-in-Hand’ joint military exercise between the two armies which is underway in Pune.
Though India’s northern borders continue to remain calm at large, issues pertaining to the Line of Actual Control still continues to exist between India and China. India has undertaken a lot of steps to beef up security along its borders with China like raising of a mountain brigade, deployment of modern artillery and tanks and creating greater airfield infrastructure among others.
