NTPC Ltd and National Aluminium Company (NALCO) have jointly agreed to set up a 2,400 MW coal-based power project in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district. To this effect, NTPC has signed an MoU with NALCO to establish a joint venture company for developing a coal based power plant in Gajmara. NALCO will utilize the energy produced at this unit to power its aluminium smelter.
NTPC limited is a Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU), operational under the aegis of Union Ministry of Power. It is engaged in the business of generation of electricity and allied activities. It is India’s largest power generator company. It was established in 1975 and headquartered in New Delhi.
NALCO is public sector enterprise of the Union Ministry of Mines incorporated in 1981. It is Asia’s largest, and the sixth largest, integrated aluminium complex in the world. Its business encompasses alumina refining, bauxite mining, aluminium smelting and casting, power generation, rail and port operations.
