A woman from Ohio has grown a 1,725-pound pumpkin. Hristy Harp, of Jackson Township, a maths teacher, aced the Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers' annual weigh-off held last week in Canfield .
Mitigation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by industrialised countries is at the heart of the Kyoto Protocol, an international treaty meant to tackle global warming that is being caused by the emissions. "The rich countries were "trying to dump the protocol because they have seen they cannot mitigate," this is what UN climate chief Yvo de Boer has said recently.

October 7, 2009: World Bank-IMF meetings at Istambul
The annual meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund was formally concluded recently (7.9.09) at Istanbul with an appeal to nations to pursue reforms while dealing with the global economic crisis.
The next two annual IMF-World Bank meetings will be held at their headquarters in Washington DC before then meeting in Egypt in 2012.
As per a latest UNICEF report more than one third of the world's child brides are from India. Some facts:
Recently Japan and China have sent shockwaves around the world by proposing to create an "East Asian Community," very much similar to the European Union. This comunity could make a fierce force to reckon with and improve economic and political relationships in the region. The community would involve visa-free travel, public health, energy and the environment.
Recently a report was released by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with the title "Possible Military Dimensions of Iran's Nuclear Program" which says that Iran has acquired sufficient information to be able to design and produce a workable atom bomb. This said that a a complex program was apparantly began in 2002, by Iran's Defense Ministry with an aim to develop a nuclear payload to be delivered using the Shahab 3 missile system. However two years back, American intelligence agencies published a detailed report concluding that Tehran halted its efforts to design a nuclear weapon in 2003.
Grameenphone is Bangladesh's telecom major. It recently launched largest initial public offering (IPO) of the country with a hope to raise Taka 4.8 billion ($80 million approximately) from the domestic market.
A research was published recently which said that 1.2 children under the age of 5 die every year around the world from two pneumonia-causing diseases Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae B or Hib which could be easily prevented with vaccines.
Former Taiwan president Chen Shui-bian has been found guilty of corruption on Friday and sentenced to life in prison. he was two times president of Taiwan and was convicted for six charges related to bribery and corruption. The case is 3 years old and involves his wife ans some close people.

Juan Almeida, who dies recently at the age of 82 was one of the original leaders of the Cuban revolution. He was current vice president of Cuba.
