      Hello khsvardhan,
It’s not easy in multi-ethnic north east. There are so many conditions that gave rise to the conflicts and unless those are resolved, it is not possible to bring peace in North East. Each group there asserts autonomy for its own people on ethnic lines. Then, each group has its own political goals, some want more autonomy, others want more political rights, some want complete independence from India. Then, government cannot talk to all of them because each of them asserts itself as representative of interests of the people. If NSCN(IM) has signed a framework agreement with centre, we see NSCN(K) and other coming together and again create a bigger group. That group would now try to create troubles.
This has been happening there since many years, as we discussed in module. Even with NSCN(IM), government is negotiating since 1997, and its 18th year going on in these talks, more time has lapsed than the Mizo Accord negotiations. The question of Naga sovereignty seems to have melted to shared sovereignty, but still we need to wait and watch if central government is able to fix the North East corner of our house.

SIr, How Naga Peace Accord helps insurgency in North Eastern region?

Hello Yugandhar, Firstly, NSCN (IM) has agreed to formally end its armed insurgency. Secondly, its coming to an agreement with the NDA government itself is very significant because UPA did not make much progress in that direction. But it is yet to be seen if it actually helps .

Sir, in this doc on page 9, it i mentioned that AFSPA is in place in all the 7 states of NE except Mizoram…it should have been Tripura. AFSPA still exists in Mizoram.

Hello Pooja, Thanks for pointing it out. It was corrected. Tripura has recently removed the act, at that time, it was in 5 states and 2 UTs (Arunachal and Mizoram were UTs that time).
