Who is First woman MLA of Mizoram assembly?

Thanmawii, who died in 2012, was thefirst woman MLA of Mizoram assembly. Ms. Thanmawii was elected as a legislator from Serchhip constituency, currently held by Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, in 1978 as a nominee of the People’s Conference. Born in Haflong, North Cachar Hills district, on March 30, 1921, her life spanned the most tumultuous decades in Mizo history. From a missionary’s daughter she went on to become the first Mizo graduate with English honours from Silchar. She became an elected member of the Legislative Assembly of the then Union Territory of Mizoram in 1977 from Serchip constituency. When the People’s Conference government fell, she was elected from Aizawl East in the polls held in 1979 as the Brig when Mizoram was a Union Territory, before the attainment of Statehood in 1987 following a historic accord signed between the Centre and the erstwhile underground Mizo National Front on June 30, 1986.
