What is meant by the term person or personality in law?

[Jurisprudence] The word ‘person’ is derived from the Latin word ‘persona’. Many definitions of person have been given by various writers. According to Gray, a person is “an entity to which rights and duties may be attributed.” It means not only human beings but also associations as well. ‘Personality’, on the other hand, is a very vague and wide term and it has a variety of meanings. According to Paton, a legal personality is a particular device by which law creates units to which it ascribes certain powers. It is merely a convenient juristic device by which the problem of organizing rights and duties are carried out.
