Are freedoms given by Article 19 of the Indian Constitution absolute?

While it is necessary to maintain and preserve freedoms prescribed under Article 19 (1) of the Indian Constitution, so also it is necessary to place some curbs on these freedoms for the maintenance of social order. No freedom can absolute or completely unrestricted. Accordingly, under Article 19 (2) to 19 (6), the state may make a law imposing ‘reasonable restrictions’ on the exercise of the rights under Article 19 (1) ‘in the interests of’ the security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States, public order, decency, morality, sovereignty and integrity of India, or ‘in relation to contempt of Court, defamation or incitement to an offence’.
