What is meant by constitutional law?

The legal system of a country can be divided into two parts. First deals with the laws governing the state and the second deals with the laws by which the state governs or regulates the conduct of its member. Constitutional law falls in the first category. It deals with the rules and norms from which the governmental organs draw their powers and functions. The Constitutional law of a country consists of both legal and non-legal norms. A written Constitution is the formal source of all Constitutional law in the country. The purpose of having a Constitution is to have a frame-work of government which is likely to endure through the vicissitudes of a nation.
