Former IB chief Syed Asif Ibrahim was appointed as Special Envoy for counter terrorism and extremism. He will be in the rank of Secretary to the government and will hold the post for a period of three years or until further orders. Ibrahim, the 1977 batch IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, retired as Intelligence Bureau Director in December 2014.
