Chhattisgarh is the only state producing tin concentrates. In Govindpal-Tongpal area in Dantewada district, Chhattisgarh, tin in the form of cassiterite is being mined from the sediments deposited in the streams. Tin, as a metal, is the most preferred and environment-friendly packing material. Tin plates are used both in packaging food products like processed food, vanaspati ghee, etc. The main consumers in India are the tin plate industry and solder industry. The latter advancing to become the biggest single end-use sector over the last decade.
